South Dakota has 32 gambling casinos in Deadwood and 9 Indian casinos located throughout the state. South Dakota also allows all bars and taverns to have up to 10 video lottery terminals that offer poker, keno, blackjack, and bingo, but these are not listed on our casino l ist. Slot machines, blackjack and poker are only permitted at Deadwood and the Indian casinos.

Deadwood was the home of some of the West's most famous characters, like Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Wild Bill was shot to death while playing cards in the No. 10 Saloon. The hand he held was two pairs: black aces and black eights, which is now known as the "dead man's hand".

Deadwood is a real thrill to visit and fun for the entire family. All the buildings are required to conform with the city's authentic 1880's architecture, so you really feel like you are back in the old west. Deadwood is a small town that is easy to walk. Most of the casinos are small, but the ambience takes you back to the time of the gold rush.
